Should I disable services such as tmpwatch on my CDRouter system?

Installation BuddyWeb

Yes. Some Linux distributions include services that periodically clean up and remove files which have not been used for a certain period of time from the system. One such service is tmpwatch, which is often problematic for CDRouter users. BuddyWeb utilizes the /tmp directory for temporary storage of session specific files and information. If programs such as tmpwatch are enabled on the /tmp directory, files used by BuddyWeb may be deleted which can result in corruption of the current BuddyWeb session.

We recommend that tmpwatch and similar programs be uninstalled or disabled on all systems running CDRouter. Although the exact mechanism for disabling these types of services is distribution dependent, most Linux distributions rely on cron to schedule them. Effectively disabling the service can usually be accomplished by removing the appropriate cron job.
