UNH-IOL Launches TR-069 Consortium

Launches functionality testing of CWMP enabled products using QA Cafe's CDRouter technology

DURHAM, N.H.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--The University of New Hampshire InterOperability Laboratory (UNH-IOL) has opened the doors to its TR-069 Consortium, a group formed to provide testing for and promote the interoperability of products that support Broadband Forum TR-069, which defines the CPE WAN Management Protocol (CWMP).

“Our members have expressed great need for neutral, third-party verification of their CWMP implementations for both CPE and ACS vendors,” said Jason Walls, Senior Technologist at the UNH-IOL. “The consortium will allow us to provide that testing as well as serve as a central location for resolving TR-069 interoperability problems.”

The consortium will begin offering functionality testing immediately, utilizing CDRouter technology running on QA Cafe's NTA1000 test appliance. The UNH-IOL’s custom test scripts will exercise the implementation of TR-069 on enabled CPE, including use of remote procedure calls, notifications, and data model specific functionality.

"QA Cafe is happy to partner with the UNH-IOL to provide CDRouter technology for the consortium’s TR-069 functional test suite. The new test suite is a great example of the type of test development that is possible with CDRouter. This will be a great addition to the TR-069 test community," stated Joe McEachern, Product Manager at QA Cafe.

The TR-069 Consortium will follow the collaborative testing model that has made other technology consortiums at the UNH-IOL successful in promoting technology adoption and product interoperability on over twenty data communications and storage technologies.

About the UNH-IOL

Founded in 1988, the UNH-IOL is one of the networking industry’s premier third-party proving grounds for developing technologies. Approximately 200 companies use the UNH-IOL's 32,000+ sq. foot facility to extend their development and quality assurance efforts by testing and fine-tuning technologies, protocols and products for multi-vendor interoperability and conformance to standards.
QA Cafe Reaches CDRouter 5.0 Milestone

QA Cafe has reached another milestone with the 5.0 release of CDRouter™, the network industry's leading CPE test solution. CDRouter 5.0 is now available with a brand new web interface, revamped test management, 64-bit Linux support, new TR-069 data models, and support for QA Cafe's new NTA1000 test appliance.

"The CDRouter 5.0 release really wraps up a number of important projects for us. We have completely redeveloped CDRouter's web interface to provide a backend database capable of scaling to millions of test case results. This makes it possible to look at device behavior over long durations that span weeks and months and still have the tools to provide meaningful results," stated Joe McEachern, Product Manager at QA Cafe.

"We are also releasing a new 64-bit version of CDRouter that runs natively on 64-bit Linux systems. For the evolving TR-069 protocol, we are releasing a new TR-069 EDM add-on that includes support for several new data models including Femtocell and Storage devices."

"And finally," summarizes McEachern, "CDRouter is now available as a turnkey solution with our NTA1000 test appliance."

QA Cafe Launches “Profiles In Quality” Series

Case Studies Highlights Use of CDRouter™ to Explore Best Testing Practices

Portsmouth, NH - QA Cafe, LLC, creators of industry-leading testing solutions for CPE routers and devices, today announced that it is introducing a series of case studies designed to highlight best testing practices for networking companies. The Profiles in Quality series is a collaboration between QA Cafe and select customers of its CDRouter&#8482 testing suite.

The case studies give an overview of the customers’s testing environment and what they consider important to ensuring the quality of their products. To help illustrate their approach to testing, the profiles explore how each company uses CDRouter as part of their quality review.

“The best networking companies are committed to quality testing because they know that if their products are unreliable, customers will look to someone else,” said Joe McEachern, Product Manager at QA Cafe. “We realized that, because of our relationships with many of these companies, we’re in a unique position to talk with their test engineers and get them to share some of their insights.”

The first two Profiles in Quality are now posted on QA Cafe’s Web site (http://www.qacafe.com/show/profiles). The first case study features chipset manufacturer Ubicom®, Inc. of Sunnyvale, CA, whose processor technologies were recently at the heart of five Innovations Award Honorees at the 2008 Consumer Electronics Show (CES). The second profile is of Boise’s CradlePoint, Inc., which engineers and manufactures docking cradles, cellular routers, and software platforms that facilitate secure mobile computing in the Web 2.0 world.

McEachern notes that additional CDRouter customers have been polled and several all along the networking supply chain have been invited to participate in the Profiles in Quality series. As other companies are featured, they will be added to the collection of case studies on qacafe.com.

QA Cafe Annouces New Xbox Live Testing Module

QA Cafe has announced a new Xbox Live Testing module that will be included in CDRouter 4.2 scheduled to be releases this fall 2008. The new module provides new functional tests to help ensure that devices are compatible with Microsoft's Xbox Live.

For most QA Cafe customers, CDRouter is used on a daily basis as part of a regression testing strategy. Incorporation of Xbox Live testing into CDRouter allows detection of Xbox Live compatibility issues early in the test cycle and reduces the risk that a device will not be certified as Xbox Live compatible by Microsoft.

The CDRouter test suite from QA Cafe is a comprehensive functional test suite for CPE routers and devices. CDRouter is currently in use at over 100 different locations around the globe involved in various aspects of building, testing, and deploying CPE router devices including chip companies, OEMs, retail companies, and ISPs. QA Cafe’s customer list covers most of the major CPE vendors with large deployments in the United States and worldwide including Linksys, D-Link, Westell, Siemens, Actiontec, 2Wire, and Motorola.

More details on the Xbox Live test module can be found in QA Cafe's application note on Xbox testing.
