Industry Adoption of TR-069 Specifications Grows to Address Multi-media Device Management

DSL Forum TR-069 Interoperability Plugfest Event - Largest to Date

NEW HAMPSHIRE -- 07/24/2006 -- Twenty-nine companies, representing thirty-five unique product implementations, successfully participated in the latest DSL Forum TR-069 Interoperability Plugfest, held at the University of New Hampshire InterOperability Laboratory (UNH-IOL). This is the third in a series of DSL Forum interoperability events that united companies implementing the DSL Forum’s “CPE WAN Management Protocol” (CWMP), defined in DSL Forum Technical Report Sixty-Nine (TR-069).

TR-069 is the protocol that defines how the Auto Configuration Servers (ACS) supplies service providers with remote management capabilities over broadband Customer Premises Equipment (CPE) solutions. On the CPE side of this event, the variety of devices implementing the protocol was greater than ever before, including home gateways, voice capable gateways, set top boxes, and wireless routers, demonstrating remote management capability for all aspects of voice, video, and data enabled networks.

“The number of participants and the wide variety of devices tested demonstrates the high demand from service providers for a common standard of remote management capability,” said Michael Brusca, chairman and president of the DSL Forum. “Interoperability is of prime importance, and TR-069 is quickly becoming the protocol of choice for management of today’s broadband subscriber networks. The success of this event and demand for further testing ‘plugfests’ show the industry’s commitment to interoperable products that speed the deployment of triple play services using TR-069 capable products. It is important to note also that like most of the current DSL Forum technical reports, TR-069 is applicable for any type of broadband access; including fiber-to-the-home."

The 29 participating companies brought over 60 engineers from around the world to the UNH-IOL facility in Durham, New Hampshire, USA, and included both system integrators and silicon vendors.

The participating companies were:

2Wire, Inc.
Actiontec Electronics, Inc.
Alcatel
Allied Telesis
Alpha Network, Inc.
Alpha Telecom, Inc.
Broadcom Corporation
Cisco – Linksys
Cisco – Scientific Atlanta
Cisco Systems, Inc.
Comtrend Corporation
Conexant Systems, Inc.
Fine Point Technologies
Infineon Technologies
Kenati Technologies, Inc.
Motive, Inc.
NETGEAR, Inc.
Netopia, Inc.
QA Cafe
Sercomm
Siemens
SupportSoft
Texas Instruments
Thomson
Tilgin AB
Trendchip Technologies
Ubicom
Westell
ZyXEL Communication, Inc.

“This was the largest TR-069 event to date,” said Matt Langlois, manager of the DSL Consortium at the UNH-IOL. “All of the participating engineers showed a willingness to collaborate and work together to achieve interoperability between their products.”

This TR-069 testing series, in addition to other test events sponsored by the DSL Forum, continue to improve real-world interoperability of products implementing both DSL Forum Technical Reports and related broadband technologies. To find out more about upcoming events and membership in the DSL Forum, visit www.dslforum.org.
